Genre Choice for Film!

Image
Hey there! My group and I all intensely researched multiple genres to decide which would be the best to use. After carful consideration my group narrowed in down to the genres comedy, drama, and thriller. We then finally came to the conclusion that the drama genre would best suit our film idea. The other genres for example comedy would not work as well as drama as it is very hard to connect both intense drama and suspense with laughter and joy. The point in our film is to shock our audience with the plot twist and keep a high emotional intensity. Thriller is in also not the ideal genre as there is not an intent to scare or startle the audience but more to spike emotions. We are also still high-school students with a limited budget and no movie equipment. This makes it very hard to do movies like thriller and keep them looking somewhat realistic. The unsuspecting plot twist found at the end of our film also inspired the pick of the drama genre. Both the thriller and comedy genres don’t

Genre Research: Comedy

Another genre I am researching is Comedy. The comedy genre is used to make audiences laugh. Comedy is meant to be light-hearted and can be enjoyed by a wide range of age groups. For the comedy genre, there are a lot of common camera angles, movements, and shots. One example of a very common camera movement would be when the director decides to zoom in extremely close for comedic effect. This movement isn't like a normal zoom, which usually shows emotions and dramatics, but is an extreme close-up that just keeps going. An example of an angle used in the comedy genre is a panning/tracking shot. A lot of the time this helps add to comedic effect as it helps viewers see what the actor is doing. The common mis-en-scene for comedy is bright and cheery lighting with props and makeup that follow this aesthetic. The main purpose of a comedy movie is to make its audience laugh, so by making the visuals and props easy going like the script, it'll help achieve the purpose. The props are

Genre Research: Drama

One of the genres my group and I are researching is the drama genre. The drama genre is  used in order to evoke a strong wave of emotions for the audience not only fear or happiness. Movies that fall under the drama category also tend to be based on a characters conflict at a time in their lives. This fits perfectly for our film as we are filming a short film about a boy that gets in a car accident and his life is forever changed. Throughout this story there are plot twists etc. which will cause the audience to feel many different emotion. For the drama genre, there are many different angles and shots that are used to spike all of these emotions. For example, one of the most common shots is a POV shot. This is used in order to to show what the main character is seeing throughout certain parts of the film. High angles are also used a lot as it shows when a person is feeling either threatened or anxious about something or someone that may be "above" them. Close ups are c

Genre Research: Thriller

Another genre I'm researching is thriller. Though similar to horror, thrillers are often meant to invoke a suspense feeling of what’s to come next while horror is more for the scare factor. For thriller, the common camera angels used are high angels. Many are done very slowly to also add to the uneasiness. A Birds eye view is a good movement option for making a character feel powerless and vulnerable which is common in thrillers. Close ups and extreme closeups are best used in showing a characters distress. With this, it sets the audiences moods and builds an effective tension. With costumes and makeup, minimal is always best in helping to keep the scenario real and the characters more relatable. This in turn makes the audience more scared because it’s more real. Low lighting creates a sense a fear and unknowing ness of to what’s come next. Depending on the scene a slow or fast paceed tiring will be used. In thrillers there’s always an intense moment and a calm moment and no in b

Our Pitch

Image
1) A coma patient comes to in a seemingly different life than he left, or does he? 2) A little car accident, at most a minor inconvenience right? Our first idea was pitch 1, we felt like it had a twist on cliché coma plots. This would be a coma patient who wakes up from his coma and realizes his life is falling apart (his girlfriend left him, his dog died, etc.) and then realizing he never woke up at all. To do this idea we would need access to some kind of medical equipment to create a hospital scene. It would also require a large cast to play the parts of people in this person’s life. A more extensive plot might be challenging to come up with, for example connecting the ideas on how the person in the coma’s life is falling apart. It would allow us to get creative with editing and foreshadowing which is intriguing, but ultimately the cons of this idea outweigh the pros.  The second idea my group and I had was pitch number 2 which is about a boy who gets in a car crash which he bel

New Year, New Group

Image
It's the new year and I am finally in A level media studies. Now that I am in A level Media  I chose to pick an entirely new group! One reason I decided to go with new group mates was because a few of my old group mates did not transition from AS media into A level media. Both Sabrina and Olivia decided not to move on so I had to form a new group all together. Also, last year we had to jump through a lot of hoops when meeting together and filming. Since everyone had opposite schedules it was impossible to ever figure out a time or day that worked for everyone. This time around I made sure to pick group mates that were more willing to move their schedules around and would have more time to dedicate to this project. I am so happy that I found this group and am confident we will work together amazing. One of my group mates is Samantha. She is incredibly good at editing which will really come in handy. While I am definitely getting better at editing, it is always useful to have someon

Finally Back Again!

Hey, it’s me Lola again. I am back here now in A Level Media Studies as a junior more ready than ever. I am so glad I passed AS Level so I have this opportunity to produce more film  (thank you for my grade by the way)!! I had so much fun last year and I am excited to finally put my skills and knowledge from last year to work to create an amazing short film. I want this short film to be my best project by far! I’ve always loved watching movies and I am so happy I get to be the one to make a mini one this time around. I enjoy coming up with my own movie ideas for fun too so, I can’t wait to get this project started. My editing is much better than it has been in the past so I’m confident I am able to create whatever plot look more real. The new effects and transitions I’ve learned how to do will be to use in this project. Anyway, here’s a little to information to remind you a little about who I am in case you forgot! First, I am still an extremely dedicated soccer player. We actua
