Movie Conventions Research: Us

Hey guys welcome back to my blog! In this blog, I want to talk about the movie "Us". The movie "Us" has many elements that I would like to include in my final task. Some of these elements include the props, sounds, lighting, and camera movements, etc that this film incorporated. The movie Us used very dark and mysterious lighting during the scary scenes that I would like to try to recreate in my final task. The lighting plays a huge role in the film and this movie had many good examples of good lighting techniques. The non-diegetic sound was also very well-matched and I would like to incorporate some of this into my final task. That eerie and thrilling music helps set the scene. Overall, lighting and music control a big part of the feeling you get from watching the movie and I would like to use these tactics properly so my viewers can feel that horror as well. Other elements of this movie that I really liked were the very well-executed jump scares throughout the movie. They always happen when you least expect it and even though they are very classic jump scares, they still work very well. I also liked the settings that this movie used. The movie went from a happy and normal setting to an eerie setting that made viewers feel uncomfortable. I would like to try and incorporate that jump from settings into my film. I really liked that this movie told a story, however, it was very hard to follow, which did not appeal to me. The storyline was very packed and new things were added constantly which made it very hard to follow along. Many scenes and ideas could have been cut from this film to make a more clear story line while still producing the overall idea being told. Overall, I really liked this movie and would love to incorporate certain aspects of it into my final task. I will be trying to use many of these elements in my film while also straying away from certain things this film. Anyways, till next time, peace out!
