Research blog: Commercial Conventions



 My group is doing a Twizzlers commercial. In these commercials people are usually trying to keep a straight face while being teased by a Twizzler. In other candy commercials the candy being advertised is always in the frame and somehow being showed in a colorful/happy way. The commercials are always very catchy and aimed to give the viewer something entertaining to watch to convince them to buy that candy.


. In these commercials all the people are usually wearing colorful/casual clothes. However, the costumes are not usually shown because of the angles used. 

. Props include twizzlers, and anything used to make the commercial more comical.

. The appearance of the actors usually have fun and exciting looks on their faces and are most of the time laughing or messing around. 

. The sound in these commercials is an a airy/catchy sound to lighten the mood and make it appear to be more fun. 

1. Conventions and Codes in Twizzler commercials include the twizzler logo of the twizzler turning from a frown to a smile with a “You Can’t Be Serious” Twizzler slogan. This slogan and little movement of the Twizzler  helps create a sense of humor and gives the audience a reason to remember and buy the candy. They also have another slogan “A Twist You Can’t Resist”. The candy is usually always on the screen for the viewer to see


2. In these commercial the props and people are always angled to be facing the camera straight on. This is to better show the peoples facial expressions turn from serious to playful. The camera always captures and focuses on a persons face as well as a Twizzler.  


3. The commercial includes pathos by illustrating a funny and light commercial to pair with the viewers emotions and drive them to remember the commercial. All of these commercials end with showing the candy and their slogan across the whole screen.
