Movie Conventions Research: Smile
Hey there! I'm back again and I hope everyone is having a great day! The reason I chose to research the movie smile was due to the fact that it is unsettling, ruthless and thrilling. These are all things in which follow the conventions of horror and what my group and I would like to accomplish for our final task! The elements simile has in which my group based our movie idea on includes; dramatic exposition and sound, props such as knifes and guns, the different camera angles to draw and create suspense for the viewer. This movie creates an infinite amount of jump scares, visuals and sounds designated to entice and scare its audience. All things in which I hope to achieve in my final task. The elements this movie had in which I throughly enjoyed was the fact it told a story. It was well filmed and edited to attract the viewer and get them to not look away. I am not a person who particularly loves to watch horror movies so I liked the fact there was some humor to it. However, in following the codes and conventions of horror, there was a great plot and it was graphic, again are all things in which makes this a great horror movie and a frame of reference to what is required to make one. Certain elements I did not like about this film was the fact at some points it was predictable and generic. Again as someone who doesn't love horror parts of the film to me were too gory and it was very scary to watch but that is coming from someone who doesn't really have the stomach to watch a horror film. I definitely know now what areas to focus more on for the genre theme of horror in our final task. I know that there are certain areas my group and I can appeal to more and create more suspense for our target audience. This will draw the viewers in and make it a more successful horror film. Smile was a great movie to research as it again created the sense of thriller, jump scares and unsettling. This is something our idea is about so smile although is very different in the sense of the plot has the same basic idea. See you next time. Peace Out!
