Creative Critical Reflection

My product challenges conventions. Many Twizzler commercials use bright colors and upbeat music to keep their audience engaged. Our commercial however, used romantic slow music and dimmer lights. This is completely different from most candy commercials especially Twizzler commercials. The commercial was still happy and showed the product in an entertaining way but we used different things to make it unique which challenged the conventions. This also represents social groups because we all came together because we loved Twizzlers over other candies and it brought up a conversation and good ideas for the commercial.

My product engages with the audience in many ways. First, my commercial resembles the scene of a very common movie making the content familiar to many. The lighting, music and colors also create an intriguing scene leading up to the reveal of the ads purpose. The suspense leading up to showing the Twizzlers draws the audience to keep watching and stay entertained until the end reveal. My product would be distributed as an commercial on television. It can also be an ad for a YouTube video.

My production skills developed tremendously from this project. Going into this project I had no clue how to edit nor film. As the project moved along I started to get the hang of where to set the camera when filming. Depending on the scene I would turn the phone a different way, stand in a certain position to capture the correct angle, or use a different setting on the camera to make the shot more clear. My editing abilities also have improved. Even though they are no where near amazing I learned how to import a logo onto the screen and make the background transparent. I also learned how to add music in the background and mute the original sound. These skills will definitely follow me through the rest of the year as they continue to develop more.

I integrated many different technologies and techniques in this project. We used a iPhone to film the commercial. The quality of the iPhones camera was very good and helped make the shots very clear. I was already familiar with the way the camera worked but we included many of the different camera options the iPhone camera provided like the cinematic mode. These were all very new to me but fun to use. We also used the softwares iMovie and CapCut to edit our video. I used CapCut to insert the Twizzler logo transparently over the last scene of the commercial. YouTube was also an online source we used so we were able to embed and submit the commercial.
